This song was written many years ago. And almost immediately upon its completion, was dumped into the land of “Nope!” The idea started, was shaped and molded, the phrasings created to sound just a certain way, inflections designed to tell the story with the right feeling, until everything seemed to fit together in a way that was just about PERFECT . . . for a different artist! The artist that came to mind every time; Vanessa Carlton. And admittedly not knowing much of her work, that limited knowledge put this song perfectly in her wheelhouse.

Fast forward several years. Band practice night, tubes are a-warming, guitars are a-tuning, fingers are a-stretching, and we fall into the beginnings of this song, just messing around. Only now, where there was once merely an acoustic guitar, there is a band! The bass picks up a cool groove, keys are laying down this killer texture, this jazzy/swingy rhythm kicks up, and the solo guitar that drifts around the room is telling us all one thing, the same thing . . . Vanessa ain’t getting this song! (Just don’t tell her . . .)
